Haiku #7: Dreams of Purple

A gecko jammin’ Woodstock

Jimi’s purple haze

I know that this haiku is somewhat random, but I get that way sometimes. I saw a cartoon meme on Facebook this morning that made me think of this outlandish poem. I was starting my second year in high school when I heard that people were flocking to the now-famous Woodstock Festival in New York back in August 1969. I was a bit too young to go and didn’t have the funds to drive that far. I became a huge Jimi Hendrix fan afterward, and of course, Purple Haze was one of my favorite songs.

Oh, to be a gecko on one of the purple leaves of cannabis that Jimi was smoking…

Purple haze all in my brain
Lately things just don’t seem the same
Actin’ funny but I don’t know why
‘Scuse me while I kiss the sky

Jimi Hendrix

  1. I remember waiting for the school bus and Jimi was playing on someone’s radio/cassette player, and the next song was Black Magic Woman by my favorite, Carlos Santana. The good ole days.

  2. Blimey, Woodstock, 1969, first year of my PhD, met my future wife, Creedence Clearwater Revival STILL my favourite band …… the voice of the 60s!
